Henrico Photo

The Photographer & Studio Owner
A small word from our freelance photographer and studio owner.
I am from the Netherlands, and immigrated to the USA in 1988. Over the years I lived in Fairfax County, Newport News and Hampton to finally settle down in Richmond. My interest in photography started in my early years around the age of 12. I photographed in both 35mm film & slides, and created short movies with super 8mm film. While drafted in the army, I worked the darkroom in black and white photography. In 2002 I became interested in the digital photography medium, how ever I still like to shoot and develop black & white film, in 35mm, medium and large format.

The Studio
The studio is located in the residential area of Darbytown Meadows, Henrico County. The studio has three camera rooms, one each with its own specialty, from simple ID/passport/headshots and individual fashion style to traditional family portraits. A family or a group of up to six will fit comfortably in each studio with unlimited posing possibilities. The camera rooms are set up in both low and hi-key.

Camera Room 1 (hi-key)
The main background is a large white seamless backdrop which really brings out the attention to the subject. This backdrop is perfect for fashion and portfolio photography. We also have green screen photography available in this camera room. Most in studio commercial work is performed in this camera room as well.

Camera Room 2 (low-key)
The main backdrop is of a neutral color. This backdrop is great for beautiful dresses and bridal portraits, as well as for black and white photography. The next backdrop in this studio is commonly referred to as "old masters", meaning light in the center and going dark to the outside, creating a beautiful vignette around the subject, being it a single business headshot or a family portrait. A second old masters in brighter colors is also available. Some bright single color backgrounds for individual portraits are in this camera room as well.

Camera Room 3
There are a large number of painted backgrounds of various scenes located here. The main purpose for this studio is to photograph babies/small children and teenagers/seniors. Some backgrounds are also perfect for the personalized family greeting cards. ID and passport photos are also made in this studio on a clear plain white background.
